Eight year house renovation a labor of love in Highton

A COMPLETE renovation of a “chocolate ripple brick house” has transformed a Highton property into a modern family home.

The layout may have stayed relatively the same but the house at 10 Oakbank Ave looks like a new home.

Emma and Nick Jarman bought the property about eight years ago for $483,500 after returning from Dubai and spent two years searching for what they wanted.

“Nick wanted a chocolate ripple brick house he could add timber and render to,” Mrs Jarman said.

She said they finally found a house to buy and it had some work already done to it but it was a bad touch up.

“We have re-done everything, almost everything is new,” she said.

The tastefully renovated house has a classy entry foyer with keyless entry.

Due to the slope of the block all that is on the ground floor is the entry foyer, double garage and bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.

Upstairs is the open-plan living area along with a rumpus room and three bedrooms including the main bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.

Mrs Jarman said they originally thought it would be a two to three year project but it extended out to eight years as they completed areas bit by bit.

“We lost interest half way through and it was hard through the winter but we learned along the way,” she said.

The couple enlisted a builder throughout the entire process to ensure it was a quality renovation.

This is not their first renovation project, they have done a couple of others and are now going to look for the next one to sink their teeth into.

Buxton, agent Ben Riddle said the vendors had done a great job of transforming a late 1970s brick house into something more modern.

“It still has the older floor plan but everything has been touched, they have lived in it as they have done it,” Mr Riddle said.

“It is a good leafy spot near the river.”

The property will be going to auction on March 30 at 2.30pm. Price hopes are $795,000-$865,000.
