The City of Bloomington has been awarded $350,000 from the state of Illinois to help with home improvement projects for low-income families.
The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has announced the opening of the Home Repair and Accessibility Program (HRAP), designed to assist low and very-low income homeowners by providing five-year, forgivable loans of up to $45,000.
“Every Illinoisan deserves housing that is safe and accessible, no matter their economic status or zip code,” Gov. JB Pritzker said in a news release.
The money is designated for properties with documented health and safety concerns, and properties requiring accessibility upgrades for elderly or disabled homeowners, according to IHDA.
The state of Illinois has awarded $15.3 million to 36 local governments and nonprofits statewide.
“Illinois homeowners who have been delaying these vital repairs due to lack of funds should not hesitate and apply for assistance through HRAP today,” said IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust.
